This new entry in the Apes series of films has a lot working against it. For one thing, Tim Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes royally sucked. Who really wanted a sequel/prequel? For another, Fox has shuffled the release date back and forth from summer to winter and back again. Also, in a last-minute move, the title changed from just Rise of the Apes to the more awkward Rise of the Planet of the Apes. And finally, its star, James Franco, is coming off the tail end of some very negative publicity from his Oscar hosting stint.
Still, judging from this new trailer, the look and feel of Rise is vastly different from Burton's Apes and any other Apes movies that have come before it. These monkeys are computer-generated courtesy of Weta Digital. The story looks interesting, if unoriginal. What do you think? Does this look good? Do you miss the men in monkey suits?
